About the artist...

I am influenced by Post War Mid-century architecture and abstract art from the period beginning around 1940 through the early 1960’s. I am a modernist, color field, hard edge, abstract painter. My style can be described more as a range of styles–from meticulously planned complex geometrics, to monochromatic minimalism, to emotionally spawned action manifestations with an occasional objective feature.

A deep fascination with the very concept of modernism inspires me. The creative philosophies of painters like John McLaughlin, Lorser Feitelson, Helen Lundeberg, Agnes Martin, Josef Albers, Jo Baer and Frank Stella strongly influence the foundation of my work.

I create with acrylic paint applied in many layers—often with large amounts of added textures—manipulated with brushes, rollers, pallet knives, kitchen tools or simply by hand. Some of my pieces are about the power of nature and others are simply about interactions of color and texture. Each person will take away something a little different from the same picture, and I’m happy with that.
