About the artist...
For me, painting is like writing music. Although I have never written music, it is the closest I can come to articulating my process. My work is rarely narrative and evolves over many sessions, with layers, different moods, subtractions and additions — a journey of searching for visual themes and combining them into a coherent composition. Sometimes a painting starts with a photo of a landscape or urban vista. Other times I start with a color combination that struck me as beautiful. The dominant element and driving force in my paintings is always color. Shapes and rhythms develop and support the composition to create a melodious and colorful “tune”. I utilize collage, drawing and texture to “orchestrate” it until it “sounds” and feels right.
